Earlier this week, the popular Pocket Casts podcast application announced some major changes. In addition to making the mobile application free, Pocket Casts introduced a new level of paid subscription, Pocket Casts Plus. He said that customers who previously paid for access to the desktop (a $ 9 one-time fee) would have three years of access to the new Plus version. That did not go well with existing customers, so Pocket Casts has receded. Now, the company says that anyone who pays for the desktop version will have lifetime access to the new Plus level.
If you are new to Pocket Casts (or just had the mobile version) and want to upgrade to Plus, it will cost 99 ¢ / month or $ 10 / year. You will get access on macOS, Windows and the web. The paid subscription comes with cloud storage for audio and video files, and includes “icons and themes exclusive to applications.”
We are fans of Pocket Casts for a long time, and although the company faced criticism here, the great news should be that the mobile application is now free. Pocket Casts admits that charging customers for downloading the application was outdated and says that making the application free is “more closely aligned with the open access model of their property in public media.”
